Wildlife Acoustics press release October 17 2005
CONCORD, MA - October 17, 2005 - A new video that demonstrates in-field use of Song Sleuth, the interactive "Digital Birdsong Detective" has been released by Wildlife Acoustics, Inc. The 4-minute video, which shows Song Sleuth in action in a wildlife sanctuary, is now available on the company's web site.
"Our on-line video lets customers see exactly how Song Sleuth makes learning to identify birdsongs easy and fun", said Ian Agranat, Wildlife Acoustics president and founder. "When you learn in the field in real time, the lesson sticks."
Birders simply point Song Sleuth in the direction of a singing bird. In seconds, the software analyzes, identifies and rank-orders the three "prime suspects" and displays the results. Song Sleuth combines state-of-the art signal processing and directional microphone technologies with birdsong recordings from the world-renowned Macaulay Library at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
When Song Sleuth "hears" a birdsong, its specialized computer digitizes records and analyzes the sound. It compares that sound with the library recordings and displays the results. To confirm the results, birders can listen to the library recordings. They can even play back their field recording and immediately compare it with the library recording for further confirmation.
Wildlife Acoustics presently offers software modules for common birds in 14 different regions in the continental United States, plus two warbler modules. Each module is based on more then 500 individual birdsong recordings.
Song Sleuth is now available for $399.95 and includes one common bird software module of the customer's choice. Additional downloadable modules are $39.95.
Wildlife Acoustics, Inc is a privately held Massachusetts Company specializing in the development of high-tech products for birdwatchers, naturalists and researchers.
