Song Meter Features
- Small and Light Weight
- Song Meter is compact in size measuring only 8.4" x 7.1" x 2.4"
and weighs less than 3 pounds with batteries making it easy to carry in a
backpack to install in remote locations.
- Weatherproof
- Song Meter's enclosure is rated NEMA-4 and IP-67 to provide protection
against all kinds of wet and freezing weather. In addition, Song Meter can
operate over a wide range of temperatures from -4ºF to +158ºF (-20ºC to +70ºC).
- Very Low Power
- Song Meter consumes only 140mA while recording, and less than 1mA when idle
between scheduled recording periods resulting in very long battery life.
A set of 4 D alkaline batteries typically provide over 100 hours of
recording time that can be scheduled out through several months.
- High Quality Recording
- Song Meter is capable of making high quality mono or stereo recordings at a
variety of different sample rates between 4,000 and 48,000 samples per second.
The built-in omnidirectional microphones have a flat frequency response
between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, are very sensitive (-35dBV/pa) and low noise
(greater than 62dB). The signal from the microphones can be amplified by up to
45dB (programmable gain) to pick up faint and distant sounds.
- Flexible Scheduling
- Song Meter can be easily programmed to record on almost any schedule to
implement a wide range of sampling protocols, even multiple protocols for
multiple species at the same time. Schedules can be simple daily schedules
in which recordings are made at various times and durations, or more
sophisticated schedules for advanced applications.
- Solar Tracking
- Song Meter can automatically track sunrise and sunset times
to let you schedule recordings relative to the sun.
- Easy to Use
- Song Meter has an LCD display and pushbuttons for a completely integrated
and easy to use interface for setting up parameters and schedules. No
external computer is required.
- Storage
- Song Meter stores recordings in standard .WAV PCM format
or a proprietary .WAC lossless compression format on up to two
SD, SDHC, MMC or MMC Plus flash cards. With 16GB cards on the market today,
Song Meter has a capacity of up to 32GB uncompressed, or approximately
64GB compressed. That's 100 hours with CD quality stereo recordings, or more for lower sample rates or single-channel recordings. Long file names are used and include timestamps with one
second granularity in the filename as well as a user-defined prefix.
- Multiple Song Meters
- Song Meter has many features to facilitate large deployments. For example,
once the first Song Meter is programmed with a schedule and configuration
settings, the settings can be easily saved to a flash card and then loaded
into additional Song Meters. Additionally, each Song Meter can be assigned
a unique label to describe the location and/or project, and this label is
used as a prefix for the recording file names such that no two recordings in
a deployment will have the same filename. This avoids the need to label the
flash cards and makes it easy to consolidate all the collected data for
analysis.
- Field Upgradeable
- Song Meters are field upgradeable so that more features and capabilities can
be added as they become available. With a powerful 400 MIP Digital Signal
Processor, 8MB SDRAM and 4MB on-board flash can be utilized in a wide range
of future capabilities such as automatic detection, classification and
compression.
