SM3/SM3BAT firmware 1.2.3
Dear customers,
SM3 firmware release 1.2.3 is now available on our website at
http://www.wildlifeacoustics.com/products/song-meter-sm3/downloads.
Release notes can be found at
http://www.wildlifeacoustics.com/support/download-software/sm3-firmware-release-notes.
This release fixes a problem when using SM3BAT with GPS that caused
pulses of noise to appear in ultrasonic recordings at one second
intervals. More subtle noise artifacts were also observed in non
ultrasonic recordings as well.
Additionally, back-to-back trigger response times have improved
for triggered WAV mode recordings.
If you are using GPS with SM3BAT, we recommend you upgrade to the
new version 1.2.3 of the firmware.
Otherwise, you may want to wait for version 1.2.4 coming soon. In
version 1.2.4, we will be introducing a number of improvements
as follows:
- Distinction between SD flash card "ERROR" and card "DIRTY". A card that is improperly removed from a computer or that experienced an interruption during a critical write operation (e.g. updating a directory or file allocation table) is marked dirty. The SM3 avoids writing to dirty cards to avoid further filesystem corruption that could lead to unrecoverable data loss. Before 1.2.4, a dirty card was indicated by "ERROR" on the LCD display. However, "ERROR" could also mean other SD card problems or compatibility issues. With 1.2.4, the LCD now indicates if a card is "DIRTY" or "ERROR" to make the status more clear to the user. A "DIRTY" card can be easily recovered by mouting it in most PCs or Macs, possibly requiring a disk scan.
- Improvements to multiple card handling. Prior to 1.2.4, sequential recordings may jump around among cards, and recordings on one card may have status in a summary file on a different card. Now cards will fill more evenly and summary information will be more consistently written to the same card.
- Improvements to card utilization. Prior to 1.2.4, the SM3 requires enough room on a card to accommodate the largest recording that would fit in the recording time remaining. For triggered WAV mode, if you specify a max trigger duration, the card can still record if there is enough room for the largest trigger.
- Special 32-bit recording mode for marine applications.
This is only for acoustic sample rates, no triggers,
left channel only.
