Avoid diethyltoluamide (DEET) with SM4s

Dear SM4 & SM4Bat Customers,

As the spring season approaches and many recorders make their way into the field, we want to inform you of a factor to take into consideration during deployment.

Diethyltoluamide (DEET), a common ingredient in insect repellents, can deteriorate solid plastic, including the one used in the housing of the SM4. We recommend against exposing your SM4 or SM4Bat recorders to insect repellents or other chemical sprays. If your recorders will be deployed in areas where such sprays are used, we recommend protecting the equipment either by covering it during the spraying or by removing the recorder from the area during that time.

If you have any questions regarding deployment, please contact Wildlife Acoustics Support at support2017@wildlifeacoustics.com.

Sincerely yours,

Wildlife Acoustics Support
