Beware damage to the weatherproofing from animals
Dear customer,
At Wildlife Acoustics, we designed and tested the SMM-U2 to be our most
rugged and waterproof microphone ever. Unfortunately, the design is
appreciated by more than just our customers. Animals seem to be
attracted to the microphone, possibly due to its likeness to a flower.
Several customers have contacted us with damaged microphones and we have
concluded that the damage was caused by animals.
We have designed an animal guard that will better protect the microphone
and are providing this at no charge to all SMM-U2 customers. Also, if
you have microphones with membranes that are damaged, they will need to
be sent to us for testing and repair. We recently sent out an email to
all SMM-U2 customers with instructions on how to inspect microphones and
how to contact us to arrange for animal guards and/or testing and
