Converting Between Full-Spectrum and Zero-Crossing Files

Full-spectrum files can be converted into zero-crossing files using Kaleidoscope Pro Sound Analysis Software, with or without a paid license. Because software conversion can utilize noise reduction tools not available to the recorder, converting from full-spectrum to zero-crossing often results in files with better signal clarity and less noise than recording directly to zero-crossing format.

Converting zero-crossing files to a full-spectrum format requires synthesizing information that is not present in the original zero-crossing file. While this produces files that can be listened to for demonstration or educational purposes, the resulting full-spectrum files should not be used for bat species identification.
