Can I use Echo Meter Touch modules with USB connectors with iOS devices?

As of April 2024, it is now possible to use any Echo Meter Touch module that has a Micro-USB or USB-C plug with recent iOS devices (iPhones and iPads). In order for this to work, there are three requirements:

  1. The iOS device must have a USB-C port, not a Lightning port.

  2. The Echo Meter Touch module firmware must be updated to version 2.0 or later.

  3. If the Echo Meter Touch module has a Micro-USB plug, you must use a USB OTG Micro-USB to USB-C adapter.

iOS Devices with USB-C Ports

iOS devices with USB-C ports include the following:

  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation or later)

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation or later)

  • iPad Air (4th generation or later)

  • iPad mini (6th generation or later)

  • iPhone 15 and later (including Plus/Pro/Pro Max models)

iOS Devices with Lightning Ports

Earlier iOS devices, which have Lightning ports, are not compatible with USB-equipped Echo Meter Touch modules. This is true even if you use a USB to Lightning adapter.

Prior to 2021, we sold several Echo Meter Touch modules built with Lightning connectors. We discontinued these products in 2021 when Apple ceased manufacturing a necessary part. These legacy, Lightning-equipped modules are compatible with Lightning-equipped iOS devices.

Echo Meter Touch Module Firmware

Echo Meter Touch modules sold starting in mid-April 2024 come with firmware 2.0 installed, enabling compatibility with USB-C-equipped iOS devices.

If you purchased an Echo Meter Touch module during or prior to April 2024, you can update your module to firmware version 2.0 using an Android phone or tablet. For update instructions, see How do I update the firmware on my Echo Meter Touch module with USB to add iOS compatibility?.

Micro-USB to USB-C Adapter

If your Echo Meter Touch module has a Micro-USB plug, like the one shown below, and you want to use it with a USB-C-equipped iOS device, you must use a USB OTG adapter with a Micro-USB socket and a USB-C plug. See What adapter do I need for my Echo Meter Touch module and Android or iOS device.
