The SMART Microphone is EMI-shielded with an exposed grounding strip, so the microphone housing can be grounded, reducing EMI noise and risks associated with static discharge. The cable from the microphone to the SMART Controller is an Ethernet cable that carries a digital signal less affected by EMI than an analog signal.
