Turn sound into discovery, and insights into impact.
Founded in 2003, Wildlife Acoustics is the leading provider of bioacoustics monitoring technology for biologists, researchers, and government agencies worldwide. Our acoustic recorders, sound analysis software, and product training help scientists conduct species inventories, presence/absence surveys, and habitat health monitoring, expanding knowledge of wildlife and ecosystems. In 2025, we became an employee-owned company.
To empower biologists to make impactful discoveries that expand our understanding of the planet by providing reliably rugged, fully integrated bioacoustics monitoring tools, training, and resources.
We take a collaborative approach to product development, soliciting and actively listening to our customers' needs and feedback. We believe that product education is an important part of the customer experience and offer live and on-demand training, in-person workshops, and webinars, year-round. We are also pleased to support the scientific community via quarterly grant program.
While on a family hike in the Adirondacks, Ian Agranat and his brother-in-law, both avid birders, wondered whether it would be possible to create a device that could classify bird species by their calls. Inspired, Agranat (an engineer by trade) set to work developing just such a product.
Though he initially set out to develop something for hobbyists, Agranat’s technology caught the attention of the US Forest Service and the US Geological Survey, who asked him to develop a recorder that could count and identify bird and frog species more efficiently than point counting. Energized by this opportunity, Agranat went on to develop a more advanced and robust recording device, which helped him secure partnerships with additional government agencies. And so, Wildlife Acoustics was born.
Today, the company is the leading provider of professional wildlife acoustic monitoring systems, offering tools that enable biologists worldwide to turn sound into discovery and insights into impact. And it’s this purpose that drives us every day.
